Mike Pollard B.A (Hons), DipM, MCIPS, MICW is the founder and director of the consultancy Acieca Limited which specialises in providing support on procurement, supply chain management and supporting teams and organisations to collaborate effectively.
Mike is a chartered procurement professional and spent over 25 years in the rail industry negotiating, agreeing and delivering infrastructure works contracts. With the stimulus of the McNulty report in 2011 and recognition that complex multi-disciplinary railway infrastructure projects required collaboration across Network Rail, the supply chain and other stakeholders to meet ambitious cost and programme targets whilst safeguarding quality and safety, Mike was asked to develop, procure, negotiate and implement various Alliances to deliver a number of major projects on the Scotland and North East region. Mike’s involvement continued into project delivery as the Owner Representative, responsible for bedding in the contracting approach and representing Network Rail’s interest on Alliance Boards.
At this time Network Rail also began to develop its collaborative business relationship management system to reinforce their contracting approach via Alliances and collaborative frameworks. Mike spent two years as Network Rail’s Head of Collaborative Working, improving the system and maintaining Network Rail’s certification to BS 11000. He also developed an Alliance model for use by infrastructure projects division, represented Network Rail on the Rail Delivery Group Cost of Contingency workstream and was a member of the Infrastructure UK Client Group developing a best practice document and code of practice on Alliances.
More recently Mike accepted an Associate Director position at the Institute for Collaborative Working, the thought leaders and driving force behind the recently launched ISO 44001, where he looks after the validation of certification bodies, provides auditor training and delivers internal audit services to clients.
Mike is a results-driven professional with extensive experience in managing all aspects of procurement functions. He has a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, negotiating collaborative contracts, developing action strategies for contractual transitions and establishing and maintaining productive relationships across all organisational levels. Adept at building long-term business rapport with stakeholders while raising service standards and implementing best quality procedures.
