Biography

Matthew Barnes-Smith Graduated in 2010 with a degree in Construction Project Management. He spent a year in the food & drinks industry as a Health & Safety Advisor before joining Jacobs Engineering, one of the worlds biggest providers of technical, professional, and construction services, as Graduate Construction Manager. He has progressed through to Project Management and Senior Site Manager positions in smaller contracting companies, with his experience predominantly within process construction on multiple private and public funded projects ranging from £1million to £300million.

He has worked at at all stages of a project lifecycle, from concept, engineering and design, tendering and procurement, through to construction and final handover. Matthew has spent much of his time at the coal face of projects as a Site Manager, building collaborative relationships with clients, contractors and stakeholders, and being responsible for the safety, performance and development of his project team.

In combination with his career, Matthew has continued his education by studying for an MSc in Construction Project Management, a Coaching diploma in Personal Performance, and is also a qualified NLP practitioner. This has allowed him to build an empowering and inclusive approach to managing and leading projects focussing on the performance of the project team as a whole, rather then separate entities working together.

Matthew has recently set up his own Performance Company, working with people and projects who truly believe in the importance of collaboration, mutual growth and relationships based on trust. He is passionate about increasing creativity by eliminating fear from the industry, and raising self awareness and responsibility in individuals so that people feel valued and projects leave a legacy of shared success.

In his spare time, Matthew is a volunteer ambassador for Bowel & Cancer Research and frequently competes in sporting and endurance events to raise money and awareness for their cause.
