Biography

Karen in an Executive Coach and a certified facilitator of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method and materials. She believes that every company that invests in the development of its people will always reap healthy dividends. For this reason, Karen founded SleepingGiant Consulting in 2014 and has since gained a wealth of invaluable experience coaching a variety of design professionals at differing business stages; returning to work; role transition; their career path; clarification of their business goals, business growth and personal development.

With over 20 years in the AEC industry, Karen offers a unique position of understanding design culture, yet remains free from overidentification with the client’s issue. She brings to coaching her sector experience that has encompassed diverse roles as: technician, manager, trainer, technical writer & editor, speaker, network host, consultant, director and business owner. She is an active committee member of the Women in Architecture (UK) and NAWIC (The National Association of Women in Construction) networks.

Karen’s employment history has strong roots in CAD/BIM management and consulting. As one of the UK’s early leaders in CAD/BIM, Karen founded a renowned MicroStation training website, hosted the online UK CAD Managers Forum, hosted local and international CAD/BIM workshops and spoke at local and international conferences. She also sat on the AEC (UK) committee, which developed early UK CAD/BIM standards and is the editor of the Bentley Systems publication “Practical Architectural Modelling with AECOsim Building Designer”.

She engineered a career transition from Consultant to Executive Coach in 2013, firstly by mentoring small businesses in a 1:1 environment, then qualified in Personal and Business Coaching (level 7). Karen is now focused on delivery high quality coaching and workshops, in a friendly, supportive and results-oriented manner. Karen’s business objective is to develop long-term relationships with clients, ensuring a level of quality and commitment that is backed by mutual trust.
