
Roger Henderson QC - Chairman
Roger Henderson was a scholar at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, graduating in 1964 with a first class degree in law. He was called to the bar in 1964 and rapidly built up a large and varied practice in all branches of common law. He taught at Cambridge until 1970.
He took silk in 1980 at the age of 36. In silk, he has retained a very varied practice, perhaps being best known in the field of public law, local government and public inquiries. He represented the GLC and numerous authorities and associations in many of their financial battles with the last government. He has been involved in major product liability, intellectual property, telecommunications, housing, insurance, transport and local government cases and has presented a number of Bills in Parliament including the Jubilee Line Extension Bills. He represented the Secretan and King names in the Lloyds names litigation, advised CIPFA and a number of local authorities in the interest rate swap litigation and represented BT in its challenge to the extent of the Director General's statutory powers.
He represented the General Medical Council in their 2 largest disciplinary cases, the "Turkish Kidneys for Sale" and Bristol Paediatric Cardiac Surgery cases, is representing the GMC in the Shipman Inquiry, and has a significant clinical negligence practice. He was involved in the Norplant contraceptive implant product liability litigation and in the first claim in respect of a trial drug (Davis v Jacobs).
He was nominated by the Attorney General to be counsel to Sir
Desmond Fennell's Inquiry into the King's Cross fire disaster and acted
as counsel for British Rail during Sir Anthony Hidden's Inquiry into
the Clapham rail crash. He led the chambers team that represented
Railtrack at the Southall accident inquiry and at the Ladbroke Grove
inquiry.
He sits in the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Court of Arbitration and is a frequent chairman of the Accountants Joint Disciplinary Scheme tribunal e.g. re Coopers & Lybrand over its involvement in the Maxwell affair. He is a Past President of the British Academy of Forensic Sciences.
He was Chairman of the Special Committee of the St Peter's Group of Hospitals and Chairman of the Council of Governors of the London Hospital Medical College. He is the chairman of the Civil Service Arbitration Tribunal, and of the Association of Regulatory & Disciplinary Lawyers.
