Irving Rappaport
Inspired by my childhood memories of the peacemaking initiatives of Dag Hammarskjöld, Secretary General of the United Nations, I became a professional mediator in 1999 after an extensive and varied career. I love the challenge of preventing and resolving disputes by facilitating agreement between parties and I am a passionate advocate for mediation as the best available tool to achieve this. I am told that I am an excellent listener and negotiator.
I was responsible for initiating the UK's first research project into dispute prevention techniques using Contracted Mediation. This research is being carried out by Kings College and University College London in association with the Chartered Institute of Building.
I am a contributor to 'Moving On Up',
a collection of inspirational real life stories, edited by Sarah Brown (Ebury
Press 2003).
